1652 Oak Tree Shilling, IN at Bottom, Noe-7, W-480, Salmon 5-D, R.5, AU58 NGC. Ex: Christopher J. Salmon Collection. 73.5 grains. Noe-7 is a very scarce variety notable for its varied appearance. The early die state, as seen on lot 3617 in our August 2019 Signature, has a sharply defined tree and a sizeable break below the N in AN DOM. But the present lot is the latest die state, with a huge break that extends contiguously from the N to 2 in the date, and a tree nearly as poorly detailed as the Noe-10 Ghost Tree. This cream-gray piece shows slightly better-than-average planchet quality for the variety. Design high points are stone-white. Both sides are nicely centered, although the tops of the obverse legend are off the flan as usual. Listed on page 36 of the 2024 Guide Book.
