Buffalo Nickels
1921-S 5C MS66 NGC. The 1921-S Buffalo nickel is a conditionally challenging date in Gem or better grades, and Premium Gem coins such as the present are universally rare, with finer pieces being nearly uncollectible. This piece displays luminous original mint luster cast in delicate champagne iridescence. The usual bit of strike softness appears in the centers, while the fields show expected metal flow lines, but neither side is plagued by heavy abrasions. For the date, the eye appeal is excellent. This is only the third 1921-S in MS66 that we have seen within the last decade, and we have never handled a higher-grade example, though one such coin is reported at NGC. Census: 7 in 66 (1 in 66★), 1 finer (2/24).
