Standing Liberty Quarters
1916 25C MS64 Full Head PCGS. The Standing Liberty quarter went into production in December 1916, but for the public the new design was not seen in circulation until after the new year. Numismatists soon noticed that while most coins were dated 1917, some bore the 1916 date and had a slightly different version of the design. The earlier date was struck to the extent of only 52,000 coins, and the search for these coins in circulation quickly elevated the 1916 coin to key-date status in the contemporary numismatic market -- a status that remains even today. For collectors of this series, a high-grade Full Head 1916 Standing Liberty quarter is one of the top acquisitions in the series.
This Choice Full Head coin displays mainly brilliant, satiny mint luster, save for some partial russet color on the right obverse wall and in the upper left reverse margin. The strike is bold, and the surfaces show no major abrasions.
