Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1916-S 50C MS66 NGC. The 1916-S is the scarcest of the three first-year Walking Liberty half dollar issues, especially in high grade. Gem examples are elusive and typically the finest seen, while higher-grade coins are notably rare. Only two coins are reported finer than the current coin at NGC and PCGS combined. In recent years, only a few handfuls of 1916-S Walkers in MS66 have appeared at auction, these being readily acquired by Registry collectors. The current coin displays brilliant surfaces and exceptionally vibrant mint luster. Bold detail adds to the appeal, and a loupe finds only minute, unbothersome marks on the high points of the design. Census: 20 in 66 (2 in 66+), 1 finer (2/24).
