Early Dollars
1797 $1 9x7 Stars, Large Letters, B-1, BB-73, R.3, XF45 NGC. Bower Die State IV. A pair of obverse die cracks crisscross through the ribbon to Liberty's hair, defining this middle die state. Many researchers believe all BB-73 dollars (dated 1797) were struck in early 1798. The reverse is shared by early die state BB-82 Small Eagle dollars, with a remarriage to the 1797 obverse die showing the reverse in a later die state than the 1798-dated coins. This Choice XF example has wide borders free of any Mint-made adjustment marks. Silver luster remains around the smooth, faintly worn devices for excellent eye appeal.
