1965 10C Roosevelt Dime -- Struck on a 90% Silver Planchet, Transitional Alloy -- AU58 PCGS. Breen-3761. 2.56 grams. A silver dime should weigh 2.5 grams, and a clad dime typically weighs 2.27 grams. During 1965, the U.S. Mint struck 1964-dated dimes on 90% silver planchets, and 1965-dated dimes on newly introduced clad planchets. Inevitably, a small number of silver planchets found their way between 1965 dies, though the transitional alloy error is rare, comparable with the 1943 copper cent. Fortunately for collectors, the 1965 silver dime is far more affordable. The present specimen displays light chestnut-brown toning that deepens slightly near the rims. The reverse exhibits an orange-peel texture consistent with long-in-use dies. Marks are only incidental, and much luster is present despite a hint of wear on Roosevelt's cheekbone and eyebrow.
