Indian Quarter Eagles
1911-D $2 1/2 Strong D MS64+ NGC. A sharp mintmark and a bold knife rim along the right obverse border are familiar characteristics of the 1911-D quarter eagle and prominently stand out on the current example. This piece also displays rich honey-gold patina over somewhat luminous, finely textured mint luster. A few faint marks appear in the fields beneath a loupe, but overall eye appeal is excellent for the grade, making the Plus designation well deserved. NGC has awarded a Plus designation to only a couple dozen 1911-D quarter eagles in MS64, and finer pieces are among the rarest coins in the series. For most collectors, this Plus-graded Choice example is one of the finest 1911-D two and a half pieces that will typically be obtainable.
