Confederate States of America
1861-Dated General Beauregard Dime (Medal) -- Mount Removed, Obverse Tooled -- NGC Details. VF. Bertram-C861-119. Silver, 17.7 mm. The Beauregard, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson "dimes" are privately made medalets that feature Confederate heroes. The engraver is unknown, despite the presence of C.R. initials. The Beauregard variety is mentioned on page 95 of the February 1868 American Journal of Numismatics, which states "a number [were] presented by the city of New Orleans immediately after the first battle of Bull Run." The edge was reeded to further a resemblance to the dime. Like most examples of this rare variety, the loop at 12 o'clock has been removed. A mount was removed from the field near the profile, and the area is pinscratched in an attempt to dislodge solder remnants. Traces of luster remain in design recesses. The borders display light wheat-gold toning.
