Sextus Pompey, AR Denarius, 3.94g, Sicily, 42-40 BC, bare head of Pompey the Great right, between one-handled jug and lituus, rev. Neptune, holding aplustre and resting right foot on prow, standing between the Catanaean brothers Anapias and Amphinomus running in opposite directions and each carrying a parent on their shoulders, [praef] above, clas et orae marit ex sc in ex. (RRC 511/3a; Pompeia 27; Sear, Imperators, 334), obverse a little off-centre on the usual short flan, superb portrait and attractively toned, extremely fine.
