Charles I, Newark Besieged, shilling, 1646, also struck on a flan cut from a piece of silver plate bearing the royal arms, visible as an undertype on reverse, 5.18g / 79.9gr (Hird 259, this piece; Jessop Group II, this piece illustrated as fig. 2(b); cf. Nelson fig. 32; Brooker 1225, same dies; N. 2640; S. 3143), pierced at top and apparently worn as a badge, only about fine but generally clear See note to preceding lot. Provenance: Alderman H.
