(M.I. I/312/142; Platt vol. II, p. 59, type A; Eimer 144), lightly chased, good very fine Sir Richard Brown (c. 1610-1669) successfully commanded a small Parliamentary army in the Abingdon area. Becoming disillusioned with the Parliamentary cause he joined the Royalists and was created a baronet after the Restoration; he was also elected Lord Mayor of London. Provenance: Greta S.
