Celtic World. Vindelici. AV Stater, 'Regenbogenschüsselchen' type, 2nd-1st century BC. Obv. Bird's head left within wreath. Rev. Star or cross; three pellets above, two volutes below. LT 9436; Flesche 305; Kellner type II E. AV. 7.60 g. 19.00 mm. RR. Very rare. Good strike and centering for issue. EF. The defeat of the Gauls Vindelici at Vercellae against the Romans in 101 BC marked a significant event in Roman expansionism. This clash not only halted the advance of migrating tribes but also solidified Roman control over the region. The symbolic imagery likely depicted on artifacts from this period would reflect the Gauls Vindelici's cultural identity and their acknowledgement, albeit reluctantly, of Roman authority. These historical events offer insights into the power dynamics and cultural interactions between the Gauls Vindelici and the Roman Republic during this era.
