KM# 409.3 – Peso 1901 Zacatecas Zs AZ. NGC UNC Edge Damage.- Posterior al cambio de diseño y denominación en 1898, el puesto de ensayador de la ceca zacatecana continuó a nombre de Francisco de Paula Zárate (FZ) quién ya laboraba en el puesto desde 1886, concluyendo su periodo hasta 1904. No obstante, en 1901 se acuñaron por única ocasión y simultáneamente piezas con iniciales de ensayador AZ, del cual se desconoce información alguna hasta el momento. Ningún ejemplar actualmente en calidad "mint state", sírvase comparar con la pieza en XF45 proveniente de la colección de Len Novotny (Stack's Bowers, Marzo 2011, Lote No. 9290) el cuál realizó US$10,000.00 más comisión. Magníficos detalles y lustre especialmente en anverso, lo que confirma la nula circulación de esta pieza, debilidad parcial en leyendas como se presenta mayormente en los ejemplares que analizamos pero de grandioso plumaje en pecho del águila (sin fricciones), numerosas rayitas en superficies, lamentablemente privada de un grado numérico por un supuesto daño en canto mencionado en la etiqueta, el cual no es más que un error de corte en el borde del cospel (fin de riel) como se puede observar en la imagen. Nuestra valuación es que ostenta rayoncitos a la altura de las 2:00 del lado del gorro y que objetivamente por los rayoncitos en campos debió a acceder a un grado AU58 de destacadísimo lustre o tal vez UNC scratches. El santo grial sobre cualquier fecha y ceca del periodo, faltante en la vasta mayoría de colecciones, no más de ocho ejemplares incluyendo a la presente que sean de nuestro conocimiento. After the change of design and denomination in 1898, the position of assayer of the Zacatecas mint continued under the name of Francisco de Paula Zárate (FZ), who had been working in the position since 1886, concluding his term until 1904. However, in 1901 pieces were struck for the only time and simultaneously with the initials of the assayer AZ, of which no information is known at this time. No specimen currently in mint state quality, however, we can compare with the piece in XF45 from the collection of Len Novotny (Stack's Bowers, March 2011, Lot No. 9290) which realized US$10,000.00 plus commission. Magnificent details and luster especially on obverse, which confirms the null circulation of this piece, partial weakness in legends as it is presented mostly in the specimens we analyzed but of great plumage on the chest of the eagle (without friction), numerous scratches on surfaces, unfortunately deprived of a numerical grade by a supposed damage on the edge mentioned on the label, which is nothing more than a cutting error on the edge of the planchet (end of rail) as can be seen in the image. Our opinion is that it has Small scratches at 2:00 o'clock on the side of the cap and that objectively, because of the Small scratches in the fields, it must have reached an AU58 grade of very high luster or perhaps UNC scratches. The holy grail on any date and mint of the period, missing in the vast majority of collections, no more than eight specimens including the present one that are known to us. EXTREMELY RARE
