Grove 1492 – 12 ½ Centavos 1898 Hacienda de Tocuila (Veracruz). AU.- Este icónico ejemplar es sin duda una pieza por demás atípica dentro de la numismática mexicana. Elaborada en cospel que está hecho de hueso pulido y fue bueno por 12 y medio centavos de carne. Neil S. Utberg en su obra "Numismatic Sidelines of Mexico" (1965) describe por primera vez un ejemplar como este aseverando que las leyendas se pirograbaron con un hierro caliente, por otra parte, Miguel L. Muñoz, en su libro "Tlacos y Pilones - La Moneda del Pueblo de México" señala que las leyendas fueron escritas a mano con tinta de huizache lo cual creemos es más factible ya que la caligrafía en cada uno de los ejemplares que observamos es similar más no idéntica. Al reverso, monograma FLe que refiere a las iniciales de Federico Lüdert Rul quien fuera el dueño de la hacienda; abajo la fecha. Algunas porosidades propias del material y rayitas detectables solo ante minuciosa inspección. Muy Rara

This iconic specimen is undoubtedly an atypical piece in Mexican numismatics. Crafted in blanks that were made of polished bone and were good for 12 and a half cents worth of meat. Neil S. Utberg in his work "Numismatic Sidelines of Mexico" (1965) describes for the first time a specimen like this one asserting that the legends were pyrographed with a hot iron. Miguel L. Muñoz, in his book "Tlacos y Pilones - La Moneda del Pueblo de México" indicates that the legends were handwritten with huizache ink, which we believe is more possible since the calligraphy on each of the specimens we observed is similar but not identical. On the reverse, monogram FLe that refers to the initials of Federico Lüdert Rul who was the owner of the hacienda; below the date. Some porosities typical of the material and small scratches detectable only upon close inspection. Very Rare.
