MÉXICO. KM# 45 (A&C# 1328) – 8 Reales 1639 Mo (P). VF.- Una de las mayores pérdidas para la corona española durante el siglo XVII fue el naufragio del galeón "Concepción", hundido en 1641 al noreste de la isla "La Española" (hoy Haití y República Dominicana), poco tiempo después los rumores del naufragio llegaron a las colonias inglesas americanas incentivando su búsqueda hasta que en 1687 el Capitán William Phips recuperó una parte del cargamento en monedas de oro y plata. En 1978 volvieron a recuperarse alrededor de 60,000 piezas de plata, la que aquí se ofrece, una de ellas. Destacable acuñación, fecha a cuatro dígitos, ceca y ensayador, aunque este último parcialmente débil, parte de las leyendas visibles por ambas caras, escudo y cruz completos, corrosión mayormente en reverso en virtud a su procedencia de rescate, patina oscura post limpieza, 25.58 gramos. One of the greatest losses for the Spanish crown during the 17th century was the shipwreck of the galleon "Concepción", sunk in 1641 northeast of the island of "La Española" (today Haiti and the Dominican Republic).Shortly thereafter, rumors of the shipwreck reached the English American colonies, encouraging the search for it until 1687, when Captain William Phips recovered part of the cargo of the gold and silver coins. In 1978 about 60,000 pieces of silver were recovered, the one offered here, one of them. Remarkable struck, four digit date, mint, and assayer, although the last one partially weak, part of the legends visible on both sides, complete shield and cross, corrosion mostly on reverse due to its ransom provenance, dark patina post cleaning, 25.58 grams.
