SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny (485-466 BC). AR drachm (16mm, 4.15 gm, 1h). Struck ca. 485-470 BC. Horseman riding right / Head of Arethusa right, wearing pearl diadem and necklace; [ΣVRA]KOΣI-O-N around; all within incuse circle. Boehringer 283. SNG ANS 95. Rare! Well centered on a round flan. NGC VF★ 5/5 - 5/5. Despite the ubiquity of Syracuse tetradrachms from the Deinomenid period, single drachms are exceedingly rare and were apparently only struck in small numbers.
