ROMAN EMPIRE. Roman bronze oil lamp in the shape of a foot. Ca. AD 100-250. Measuring 2.75" X 1.2" (69 X 30mm), this charming oil lamp is made in the form of a human right foot, with the filling hope at the ankle and the wick spout at the big toe. The motif is surprisingly common among Roman oil lamps of the 1st-3rd centuries AD, both in ceramic and bronze, although they are usually larger and more elaborately decorated than this example. Light green patina with some residual silvering or tinning and earthen encrustation, two small holes at either side.
