ROMAN EMPIRE. Silver patera. Ca. AD 50-200. This simple bowl is 8" (20.3 cm) in diameter and bears no design other than a series of raised and engraved concentric circles. The patera was often used as a sacred vessel used in animal and vegetal sacrifices; it could also be used as a table vessel for eating and drinking. Weight: 376 grams. Dark gray-brown "find patina" overall, otherwise intact and unrepaired.From The Lexington Collection of Jonathan K. Kern.
