Australia
New South Wales. Colonial 15 Pence (Dump) 1813 VG Details (Environmental Damage) NGC, KM1.3 (incorrect on NGC holder). Mira-D/2. The first coin struck in and for Australia, made from a cut Spanish Colonial 8 reales with the present inner portion, or "dump", circulating with a value of 15 Pence, while the outer portion (missing here), or "holey dollar", was assigned a value of 5 Shillings. While not always the case, the undertype is faintly visible on this specimen, with a small portion of the castle in the Spanish shield apparent just to the lower left of the central obverse crown. The crown itself remains impressively detailed for the type, while the lettering, both on the obverse and reverse, has softened because of honest wear or a touch of corrosion at the obverse margin from 7 to 10 o'clock. Light golden patina at the obverse edges balances the look, while the obverse centers and reverse remain mostly untoned. A rarity in any form, and a certainty to attract many a specialist that has long-desired this storied and historic issue. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $30000 in VF. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $30000 in VF.

Estimate: 7000-9000 USD
