Montserrat & Tortola Countermarked 2 Bits G4 NGC, Prid-45 (this specimen). A cut 1/4 segment of a Spanish Colonial 8 Reales countermarked with three "M" stamps on obverse and two couped cross stamp on reverse (for Montserrat, ca. 1788-1805) with the "Tirtila" type II stamp (for Tortola, ca. 1805-1824) also on the obverse. Base coin Good, countermarks Fine, 5.44 grams. The use of two couped cross stamps, a most unusual occurrence for the Montserrat issue (this stamp was normally applied only once, obviously as a validation mark).
