Martinique, St. Kitts & Tortola Countermarked 2 Bits G6 NGC, Prid-23. A Martinique "Moco" (a 1/4 segment of a Spanish Colonial 8 Reales with crenated edges, c. 1797) countermarked with three incuse "S" (for St. Kitts, c. 1801) on obv. and with "Tirtila" type III stamp (for Tortola ca. 1805-1824). Base coin Good, countermarks good Fine, 6.28 grams. An extremely rare treble island West Indies issue with a wonderful pedigree. Clearly a vibrant testimony of the commercial circuits of the time since this specimen successively circulated in three neighboring locations at different times. Ex. Pridmore and Roehrs collections. A similar piece recently sold in DNW for £2,400 (DNW 4/2014, lot 1295).
