Chile
Republic copper Pattern Peso 1851 MS64 Red and Brown NGC, Paris mint, KM-Pn9. Choice Mint State and very lustrous, with light brown toning and considerable hues of red coming through. Chile officially adopted the Decimal standard by law of January 9, 1851 and commissioned a steam minting press to that effect in France, where the great Concours Monétaire of 1848 had recently taken place. A few trial strikes or presentation pieces were issued, covering all gold and silver denominations with dies designed by Barre dated 1851. Among these the most beautiful is probably the present crown sized piece or Peso that uses the obverse of the pattern 5 Francs (Maz-1267).  Sadly, it is usually encountered in impaired condition. The present example ranks among the finest seen by the cataloguer and should draw serious attention.

Estimate: 1200-1500 USD
