Republic pair of silver-plated Essai 2 Decimos 1873 PR58 & PR61 NGC, Paris mint, KM-TS5 & KM-TS6, cf. Restrepo-44. Pair of uniface trial strikings for the Medellin mint of the 2 decimos (20 Centavos) piece. Attractive Proofs with slight handling marks which account for the designations, the obverse trail piece with a tad heavier marks. In 1872-1873, a substantial renewal of the Medellin mint's equipment was done, and patterns commissioned to both the London (by W. Wyon) and Paris (by J. F. Antoine Bovy) mints for most of the denominations. The two present pieces by Bovy are very rare. The Norweb group contained similar examples for the 1 Decimo denomination, obtained from the legendary V. Brand collection.
