Dominican Republic
Republic 5 Francos 1891-A MS64 NGC, Paris mint, KM12. Choice Uncirculated with gorgeous blue and golden hues over essentially flawless fields. A true condition rarity in this select quality and undoubtedly among the finest known. Currently tied with 8 other pieces as the highest graded examples by NGC, and this must be one of the most eye-appealing among those. This issue also represents the only regular full fineness crown struck by this country and was commissioned to the Allard Belgian company who had it struck at the Paris Mint (hence the "A" mintmark) from dies engraved by Paulin Tasset. Although Estrella (1979) had doubts on the actual location of mintage, the Paris mint origin can be confirmed in the "Annuaire Statistique de la France" corresponding to the years 1891-1893 (Vol. 15, pp. 641) where a mintage of 150,000 pieces is indicated.
Estimate: 2000-2500 USD
