Anglo-Gallic. Edward the Black Prince (1362-72) gold Pavillon d'or ND AU53 PCGS, La Rochelle mint, Fr-5, Dup-1120A, Elias-158 (R). + Єd ‡ PO ‡ GnS ‡ RЄI A | nGL ‡ PnPS ‡ AQVI, the Black Prince standing facing beneath a Gothic canopy, left hand raised with a sword in his right hand, two leopards couchant at his feet and two ostrich feathers curved right to either side / + DnS : AIVTO : Ƶ : PTЄCTO : MЄ : Ƶ : IIPO : SPAIT : COR : MЄVM : R, cross quernée within ornamental quatrefoil, lis in the 1st and 4th angles, leopards in the 2nd and 3rd; an Є in the center of the cross. A rare gold issue of the Black Prince, weakly struck in the centers and slightly off-center but otherwise sharply detailed and very well-preserved. Significant residual luster remains and the intricate details of the Gothic portico are particularly crisp.
