Lot of Four 18th century Satirical Medals by C. Wermuth, Two similar undated silver medals featuring a dead man lying on the ground holding a winged caduceus and packet inscribed with "Wexel" with the legend "CREDIT IST MAUSSE TODT" or "Credit is Dead as a Rat." The reverse features the law represented by a half-figure wearing a hat with his back turned, the worlds VISIBILIS INVISIBILIS flanking him on either side and "BANQVERDOT ist ALAMODE" surrounding. VF weight 6.60gms and EF weight 7.12gms. Hamburg. One undated silver medal on corruption featuring a chubby hand holding a gold coin with the legend "KOMSTU MIR ALSO" translated "You scratch my back" and with the obverse image of an Imperial Commission member with his hand up to conceal his face, "SO KOMME ICH DIR SO" translated "And I'll scratch yours". VF 4.69gms.Hamburg. One undated gold ducat-sized medal also on corruption, with a similar design as the silver medal above but with Surrounding legends from Exodus 23:8, translated, "You shall not take a bribe, for a bride blinds the clear-sighted." Darkened patina over old cleaning with areas of darker tone surrounding the devices. Sold with old sales envelope. VF weight 3.4gms.
