William I the Conqueror (1066-87) Penny c.1083-86 MS62 NGC, Winchester mint, Wimund as moneyer, S1257, North-848. Obv. + PILLELM REX, crowned and diademed bust facing, holding scepter to right. Rev. + PIMVND ON PINC, cross pattée; letters PAXS contained within annulets in each quarter. Beautifully toned in dark russet, the glossy surfaces are quite appealing. Minor striking weakness has little effect on the central devices on this specimen from the final issue of William I.
