William I the Conqueror (1066-87) Penny c.1083-86 AU58 PCGS, Cardiff mint, Ielfwi as moneyer, S-1257, North-850. + PILLELM REX, crowned and diademed bust facing, holding scepter to right / + IEPI ON CAIRDEI, cross pattée; letters PAXS contained within annulets in each quarter. Exhibiting a deeply engraved portrait, generally sharp in details on a a slightly wavy flan without cracks. One peckmark is noted on each side, standing out slightly against the richly-toned surfaces. This example was struck at a very uncommon mint, known only for this type.
