William I the Conqueror (1066-87) Penny c.1083-86 AU55 NGC, Wallingford mint (the NGC insert is incorrect), Ægelwine as moneyer, PAXS type, S-1257, North-848. + PILLELM REX, crowned and diademed bust facing, holding scepter to right / + ÆGLPINE ON PALL, cross pattée; letters PAXS contained within annulets in each quarter. A nicely detailed specimen, ever-so-slightly struck off-center, with lovely cabinet patina. A premium example.
