Mary gold Sovereign 1553 VF Details (Mount Removed - Harshly Cleaned) NCS, S-2488 (incorrectly labeled as S-2511 on insert) Pomegranate mm, MDLIII date, rare; all the details are clear, indicative of a higher grade than VF, flan is full and well formed, slightly wavy, cannot see mount on edge in slab, long flan crack has been partly repaired, seated portrait is rather remarkable, as is the huge Tudor rose on reverse, all legends and other design features are exceptionally sharp, gold is bright from cleaning as noted, the style of the lettering is charming with its huge annulet stops. Cleaned and mounted, this is still a rare coin.
