Great Britain
George II gold Guinea 1666 VF30 NGC, S-3342, 3rd laureate Bust. A rather subdued example with a few ancient marks including a light scuff in the field in front of the king's mouth. Struck through grease, the lower portion of the reverse shield lacks some detail, but overall this is generally a choice and pleasing coin for the grade especially when you consider the images are clear and the rims are well-defined. Struck in 1666, the year of the Great Fire of London. Many scholars believe that in addition to Shakespeare's manuscripts perishing in the fire, a number of coins and artifacts presumably did as well, which makes this a wonderful piece whose wear may actually be cherished from an historical point. Ex. Marston Collection.
