French Colonial gold 20 Livres counterstamp ND (1805) AU Details (Graffiti) NGC, KM32, Gordon-18 (variety "A"). A counterfeit Joao I 6400 Reis 1778-R (low weight at 11.78 grams and low fineness at 15.724 SG) countermarked with 20/eagle stamp to identify it as such per decree of September 26, 1805 by goldsmith Costet of St. Pierre. A small "X" to the left of the crown on the reverse accounts for the designation, but an attractive coin, unusually choice for the type with an important pedigree.Ex.
