Republic copper Specimen Pattern 1/4 Real 1836 SP64 Brown PCGS, Guanajuato (?) mint, KMPn53. A gorgeous specimen of this rare and mysterious issue, with impeccably preserved fields and attractive chocolate color. Scholar Ted Buttrey commented the following on the finer of the two Pablo Berger coins: "Although [this pattern] bears no mintmark, the eagle with concave wings marks it plainly as a product of the Mint of Guanajuato". That coin is the only other Choice example seen by the cataloguer. Very desirable, particularly in this select preservation.
Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
