Republic gold 8 Escudos 1871/61 Ca-MM MS63 NGC, Chihuahua mint, KM383.1, Fr-67. Choice Brilliant Mint State with frosty surfaces and a very pleasant strike on the eagle side. A few contact marks mostly apparent on the obverse keep it from a higher designation. Among the three highest certified examples by NGC (the other ones being an MS64 and MS63) and among the finest seen. Richard Long comments in his reference work ("Gold Coins of the Mexican Republic", p. 330"): "[Some Chihuahua 1871 8 Escudos exist] in sharply struck BU, which are quite spectacular".
