Pedro II pair of commemorative medals 1842, VC-129, Meili-96. Obv.: bust of Pedro II facing left. Rev.: view of the Sao Cristovao Palace (the residence of the Imperial Family), legend. Struck for the cornerstone ceremony of the Anjo Custodio school on September 7, 1842. The Anjo Custodio was a model school founded by decree of July 18, 1842 and functioning in the Sao Cristovao Palace. Engraved by Azevedo. Two specimens, as follows: copper (good XF, 51mm, 79.21 grams) and silver (good VF, 51mm, 76.64 grams). Both rare, particularly the silver piece.
