Ceiba 50 Centavos 1865 GW, KM112. First year of type for this denomination from a design which began with quarters in 1864. The dies were employed in San Jose with less machine pressure than necessary to create deep strikes; thus the entire silver series, except the humble thin 5 Centavos denomination, are invariably lightly struck. This piece is likely EF for wear but was unnecessarily brightly cleaned and then lacquered (King Farouk's curator was famous for doing such). Some small surface marks are thus visible as is much design detail.
Estimate: 200-300 USD
