Costa Rica
Group of Tokens, Primarily Hacienda Usage, Group of 50 pieces includes 41 issued in brass, 3 in aluminum, two in CuNi and four in zinc or such. CuNi pair are Rulau Pns-3 and SJS-42 while aluminum are all coffee plantation issues. Curridabat Jimenez bumble-bee issue of Rulau SJS-9 offered with and without cancelation mark. Likely the most appealing issue to numismatists is a choice VF+ Salvador Jimenez "5 Centavos" dated 1867 on one side and 1868 on the other; possibly stuck on an 1865-66 regulation one centavo flan, it has a coffee plant with COSTA RICA in the curved periphery. Another more enticing issue is a Heredia brass of Manuel J Flores with national shield dominating the backside design. A bronze Escojida de Café, like Rulau SJS-45, is a scarce circulated AEF variety whereas Rulau gives the history of the emission but shows only UNC specimen prices. The great bulk of the other 36 brass pieces are almost certainly early 20 sup th /sup century issues, some very common, with a few possibly of late 19 sup th /sup century origin. Quality is typical with none in splendid grade. SOLD AS IS, NO RETURN.
