Ferdinand VII c/m ND (ca. 1820?) over 8 Reales 1794 Mo-FM, KM11. A large rectangular crowned "F.7" stamp countermarked on both sides of a Mexico City 8 Reales 1794 Mo-FM. Base coin VF, countermarks XF. KM follows the tentative attribution of the catalog of the Ray Byrne collection (Jess Peters 6/1975, lot 1143, same stamps over a Mexico 8 Reales 1807 Mo-TH). The cataloger considers this piece dubious since any undamaged bust 8 Reales would have been coveted and accepted as legal tender in Santo Domingo in the beginning of the 19th century (or any Spanish colony for that matter) without the need to be counterstamped. Moreover, the stamps on both specimens seen appear to have no wear. Probably a fantasy produced for collectors in the 20th century. Nevertheless interesting and worthy of further research.

Estimate: 200-300 USD
