Victoria Golden Jubilee Portrait silver & bronze Medals 1887, BHM-3219, Eimer-1733. 78 mm, 216.7 gm. The official Royal Mint issue, with original case, one of only 2,289 pieces struck. Obverse bust facing left, crowned and veiled, VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX, reverse enthroned Empire is flanked by Science, Letters, and Art, with Industry and Agriculture right, above, two cherubs bear shields reading MDCCCLXXXVII and MDCCCXXXVII, V.R.I. in a wreath, and IN COMMEMORATION between, in exergue five linked shields with continental inscriptions. Lovely, hairlined proof with iridescent gold and blue patina on both sides. Eimer-1733. Bronze, 77 mm, 222.1 gm. Obverse: the famous left-facing Jubilee portrait of Victoria, legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX around, initials JEB (for J.E. Boehm) on the truncation. Reverse: Victoria enthroned, surrounded by allegorical figures, IN COMMEMORATION above, five shields with ASIA, AMERICA, EUROPE, AUSTRALASIA, and AFRICA in exergue. Comes with original red case.
