City of London Mayoralty 700th Anniversary Medal 1889, BHM 3377, Eimer-1752. Bronze, 80.5mm. By A. Kirkwood & Sons. The obverse of this medal depicts the facing, crowned and draped busts of Richard I and Victoria with a vignette of seven interlaced circles above and St. George slaying the dragon below. The reverse features a seated, butterfly-winged Londonia receiving symbols of Mayoralty from the Archangel Michael with a beaming crown above and St. Paul's and the Tower behind. This stunning medal is in premium uncirculated condition and comes in its original silk-lined maroon box with selective gold print. Exceptionally high-relief detail and with dazzling mahogany luster. Mintage of only 450 pieces struck.
