INDIA: 5-coin proof set, 1957(b), very rare set of proof coins, 1 naya paisa (KM-575), 2 naya paise (KM-576), 5 naya paise (KM-577), 10 naya paise (KM-578.1), 25 naya paisa (KM-579.1), in what we believe to be the original packaging of issue from the Indian Government Mint in Bombay, Proof, RRR. Krause does not list proofs from 1957 either under individual denomination listings or under proof sets. Also, there is no mention in Dilip Rajgor's book of a 1957 complete proof set. It has been speculated online in blogs that this is a pattern proof set as there is another rupee pattern coin of 1957 with the legends "One hundred paise " which appears only on patterns. That coin comes in a set with the 50 paise and 25 paise pattern coins. The packaging of this set is similar to American proof sets of the same time period. Heritage World Coin Auctions sold a single 25 naya paise coin in their Auction 3026, Lot 27815 for $550. This set is of the utmost rarity.
Estimate: 1,800- 2,200 USD
