ARAB-BYZANTINE: Standing Caliph, ca. 692-700, AE fals (2.83g), Tanukh, A-3531, W-P.10, mint name right and waf left of circle-on-steps, some weakness & one lamination, EF, R. This mint name refers to the tribe, the Banu Tanukh, rather than a physical location. Walker and others previously misread it as Saruj, a city near Harran, but this name is consistently spelled without the extra tooth that would be required for Saruj and without the R after the S. Besides, Saruj is located outside the region of Halab (Aleppo).
