S., Coinage of the Gupta Empire; Volume IV, Banaras 1957, Numismatic Society of India, Banaras Hindu University, 390 pages, 92 plates, hardcover, with dust jacket, for the past 50+ years this book remains the bible of Gupta Coin classification. It comprehensively lists all the coin types and varieties of Gupta Gold coins. This book was compiled by Dr. A.S. Altekar over a period of years and is truly a must have for any library that wants to cover Indian Coins. To date, there is no other book that covers the entirity of Gupta Numismatics in such depth. While there is debate on some inconsistencies in the different classifications used by Dr. Altekar, it still remains as complete a work as possible and is the standard work on the series, scarce and hard to find.
