Zengid of Mosul, Qutb al-din Mawdud (544-564h), Dinar, al-Mawsil 552h, citing the Great Seljuq ruler Sanjar as overlord, obv. la ilah illa allah /wahdahu la sharik lahu / al-muqtafi li-amr allah / amir al-mu'minin, al-'adl above, malik al-umara to right, tughril tekin to left, rev. lillah / muhammad rasul allah / sali allah 'alayhi / mu'izz al-dunya / wa'l-din sanjar, atabeg to right, mawdud to left, 6.20g (A 1856 var.). Wavy flan, traces of mounting on edge, otherwise good very fine and extremely rare, believed unpublished.
This is believed to be the first recorded coin of this ruler to cite a Seljuq overlord. It is also an unpublished date for the mint; Diler does not record any dinars of al-Mawsil struck between 543h and 557h.

Estimate: £1,500-1,800
