USA 5 Dollars 1796 6 over 5 Breen 6418 9-I, Breen states that the true mintage of the 1796 issue is between 6196 and 7253 pieces, undoubtedly rarer than the 1795 coin, Good Fine for wear, an ex-jewellery piece with a brooch mount neatly removed from 3 and 9 o'clock on the reverse and with evidence on the mount being skilfully removed from the edge thus leaving the milling largely intact. It has been stated that possibly no more than 80-100 examples still exist with a low grade example recently fetching around $14,000 (over £8000) in a US sale, an extremely rare coin and an opportunity to obtain an early USA gold piece seldom offered for sale in any grade.
