ROMAN EMPIRE
Tiberius, 14-37
Denarius 36/37, Lugdunum. TI CAESAR DIVI - AVG F AVGVSTVS Laureate bust to r. Rev. PONTIF MAXIM Livia (as Pax) seated to r. on throne with ornate legs, holding long sceptre and olive branch, single line below chair. 3.74 g. RIC 30. C. 16. BMC 48. Good toning. Good very fine.
Until recently the mints of Tiberius were considered to be Rome and Lugdunum. In light of the discovery of a coin die of this type in a Roman house in the former military settlement of Vindonissa, today Windisch/Aargau in Switzerland, this view must be reconsidered.
