ANCIENT COINS, ROMAN, Mint of Rome unless otherwise stated, Sextus Pompey, Silver Denarius, minted in Sicily, struck 42-40 BC, MAG PIVS IMP ITER (only partially visible), head of Pompey the Great facing right, jug behind, a lituus before, rev PRAEF / CLAS ET OR[AE] / MARIT EX [S C], Neptune standing left, wearing a diadem, holding an aplustre and with a cloak draped over his arm, his right foot on a prow, one of the Catanaean brothers on either side of him, bearing his father on his shoulders, 3.67g, 12h (Cr 511/3a; Syd 1344; RCV 1392). Cabinet tone, about fine.
