ANCIENT COINS, ROMAN, Mint of Rome unless otherwise stated, Hadrian (AD 117-138), Æ As, struck AD 119, IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HAD[RIANVS] AVG, laureate bust facing right, drapery on left shoulder, rev BRITANNIA in exergue, PONT MAX TR POT COS III, S-C, Britannia seated facing, right foot on rock, resting head on her right hand and holding a sceptre, large shield on right, 10.08g, 5h (RIC 577(b); BMC 1175; RCV 3676). Broad flan, dark green patina with some light spots of erosion, good fine and rare.
This issue is the first time that Britannia appears on coinage.
