Middlesex. Swan 1/2 Penny Token 1797 MS64 Brown NGC, DH-175A. E: Plain. One of the trophy items in the entire Conder Token series, with the majestic swan encompassing the obverse and an urn, flanked by scythes, laurel sprigs, arrows, a skull and an hour glass on the reverse. Some original red is seen. Very rarely offered, the only other example that we have traced was the Bobbe Collection specimen that last sold for £1350 hammer in 2011. That example, comparable in surfaces condition, did have a small flan fault (possibly a clip) at the edge which would place the present example as technically finer.Ex. Joel Spingarn Collection
