The Royal Society, George VI, The King's Medal, awarded 1937 to Professor Arthur Henry Reginald Buller, bare head l., by Henry Paget, rev. by W. Wyon, REGIS MVNIFICENTIA ARBITRIO SOCIETATIS, statue of Newton between drawings of his theories, named on edge, 72.5mm., 18ct., wt. 298.17gms., hallmarked on edge, some light handling marks, good extremely fine, extremely rare, in Royal Mint red leather case of issue A highly important scientific medal. Arthur Henry Reginald Buller (1874-1944), Anglo-Canadian mycologist and botanist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1937, receiving the King's Medal in the same year 'In recognition of his researches on the general biology and sexuality of the fungi'. Born in Birmingham, he was educated at Queen's College, Taunton, before getting degrees at Birmingham, Leipzig and Munich. He moved to the University of Manitoba in 1904 and the remainder of his eminent career was in Canada. He was elected to the Royal Society of Canada in 1909 and was President from 1927, receiving their Flavelle Medal in 1929. The Buller Building at the University of Manitoba, built in 1932, is named in his honour.
